Stephen Decatur Girls Wrestling
I'm a senior at Stephen Decatur, a wrestler, and a Maryland state champion. I started wrestling almost by accident in tenth grade, and it has become one of the biggest parts of my life.
One of my favorite feelings

I didn't grow up planning to be a wrestler. Honestly, I didn't even know it would become part of my life until I was already in high school.
Before high school, I was homeschooled on my family's farm on Maryland's Eastern Shore. I rode horses, climbed trees, and helped my mom and dad grow gardens and chop firewood for the winter months. It was a pretty independent childhood, and there was always work to do. I think a lot of my drive comes from growing up that way.
I've always loved being around people, so I decided to go to Stephen Decatur for high school. Freshman year was mostly about getting used to everything. I tried volleyball the next year, and it was fun, but it never felt completely like me. I wanted something more individual and more demanding.
Some friends told me about the girls' wrestling team, and it sounded fun. The head wrestling coach is married to my volleyball coach, so he already knew a little about me and thought I might be a good fit. I gave it a try, and he was right. There was always something specific I could learn or do better.
My first year went well, even though I didn't place at states. During my second season, I trained year-round and kept looking for ways to improve. I went undefeated in my school season and won the 2026 state championship at 125 pounds. Winning was fun and all, but after a week I was itching to be back in the room for offseason practice. Some of my closest friendships have also come from the team. My teammates and coaches believed in me, pushed me to be my best, and made the hard days fun.

National Competition

I'm competitive in the classroom, although it looks a little different than it does on the mat.
I have a 4.2 GPA and have taken AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Chemistry, and dual-enrollment courses through Wor-Wic Community College. I like difficult classes, and I tend to set a new goal as soon as I reach the last one. Right now, one of those goals is improving my SAT score.
As I think about college, I want a place where I won't have to choose between serious academics and serious wrestling. I am looking for a program that will challenge me in both, with teammates and coaches who want to keep improving. I also want a campus where I can meet all kinds of people, try new things, and grow into myself.
